The Perfect Snack for Your Untimely Hunger!

It’s 7 PM. You had your lunch a few hours ago and there’s still time for dinner but you are hungry at the moment. You want something that will curb your hunger, at least until dinner is served. You could always go outside and fetch something, but that will be too heavy and you would not be able to have dinner. So what is it that you can eat? Something that is easily available at your nearest shop and if you are up for it, you can make it at home as well, without any trouble. Does this all sound too real? If so, then you are not the only one. There is however, a solution to this problem and it is called Kaiser Bun.

Kaiser Bun, in some countries, also called Kaiser Roll, is a usually round bread roll that is sometimes crusty. They are said to have originated from Austria. The usual ingredients include white flour, salt, water, malt and yeast. Kaiser Roll is baked in such a way where it has five separated segments on top of it. Kaiser Bun, on the other hand, like the name suggests, is a bun which can be used to put burgers in between. Both the types of Kaisers can be baked at home.

The first thing you need to do is make the dough. You will need yeast, water, sugar, oil and salt for that. After you are done with the dough, you need to knead it so that it is smooth and elastic. You need to knead the dough for about 3 minutes, let it rest and then again knead it for about 4 minutes. Then you need to take a bowl and oil it enough for the dough to get sticky because of it. Leave it at a warmer place so it could rise. It would take an hour for it to do so. After an hour, when the dough has risen, punch it back to the ground so it takes a smooth form. Divide that smooth form into portions, depending on how many Kaiser Buns you want to make. Shape those portions into balls and then again cover them with a damp towel or a plastic wrapper. When the dough has risen again, brush the top side of the buns with the help of egg whites and cold water. Sprinkle your desired choice of seeds, sesame or poppy and then bake them at 205 Degrees C (400 Degrees F) for 15-20 minutes in the oven. When you see that the buns have turned light golden brown in color, remove them from the oven and allow it to cool down. Then you can use your desired burger patty, beef or chicken, to place it inside and enjoy your tasty meal. One of the top ways you can distinguish these type of buns from the regular sandwiches is that they have a five star pointed design on top. These are often called Hard Roll in some places.
